Maybe you live in a middle class suburb and don't venture beyond that. There are some places where teaching is hell on earth (as mentioned here already.
Society in Australia doesn't value teaching. It doesn't matter how expensive my clothes are.
That's why 2 out of 5 teachers leave in the first 5 years(masinly due to money). That's why the teacher shortage is becoming a problem. They keep lowering the acceptible standards to attract more teachers. It's a never ending spiral. I see some student teacxhers coming through and shake my head. But that's all they can get. Sad.
