Saturday ...At some point I awoke to the mobile phone bleeping in my ear. I heard rain and decided that it was far too early to drag my sorry ass out of bed.. I was a little wasted to say the least thanks to the laki laki nakal !!!!
An hour or two passed and I woke up again, the mobile still bleeping and I had a vague recollection of it ringing at some stage. Bleary eyed I open it up to find 4 sms and one missed call. I can't focus my eyes to read the sms so give up. I haul ass out of bed and make my way to shower ...OMG the water is cold and I gasp and shudder involuntarily.
Morning ablutions out of the way I go to check the sms. People from home wanting to know if I was having fun....ask me at 3am and you will get a definitive yes ask me at midday the next day and it is possible you wont receive a reply... :- )
A Balinese friend has recently opened a shop on Jalan Sahadewa. I had promised to go up there and see the boys. The shop name is Same Same .. But Different. [It is a clothing shop for women.]
Two of the 5 items of luggage I had taken over were for the shop. One package was a wrought iron mannequin, the other bag an assortment of clothes & some fabric bought cheaply in the end of season clearances. The styles are bit different to what you see in Bali & I left them with him to have copied to sell. Hence the name, Same Same But Different. I have no vested interest in the shop other than trying to help some friends.
Stopping at Billys for nourishment, I intended for it to be a quick stop off. The session ends up lasting until nearly 11.00pm. During the course of the late afternoon Neil returns and another couple Vic and Baz join us. We drink them out of Bourbon and Joey must go buy more...Oh the shame of it all. In fact the truth is that Katak had to come to the rescue around 8.00pm to go locate more bourbon ... Lordy, lordy we drank them out 2 times in one day.......
Reports on BTF advising that the DVD shops were closed I pre-ordered my DVD's via email through ‘H'. A charming guy, he delivered them to Billys while I was sitting having a drink with Mic. She spotted me at the bar while riding past and stopped in for a quick catch up. I like this method of shopping, delivery direct to me.
Around 10.30pm, just when I go to leave the rain starts so I sit it out a little longer. When the rain subsides I amble back to Suri expecting Katak to be there but he isn't, still out buying coke and ice...what a guy!!! When he arrives he is drenched like a rat. More laughing and drinking as always with the laki laki nakal. A couple of hours in, I develop a really nasty headache and pop a panadene forte. [It has all the trademark signs of being a migraine]. The forte works a treat but I am nodding off. Katak and the 2 Ketuts bid me farewell around 2.30am.
Sunday morning I am again awakened by the mobile phone. I am groggy from the pain killer I took, and cant for the life of me work out who the message is from. Turns out to be Vic and Baz from the previous night. I had promised to meet for lunch at the Pub down in Kuta for Sizzling Beef Sates. ....yum!!
As I walk down Jalan Sahadewa to hail a taksi I am surprized to find no tourists wandering the streets. No taksi's to be found either. Damn!!. Vick and Baz message me again ...we are here waiting!!! I make my way down to Jalan Melasti avoiding stopping and chatting along the way, & grab the first available cab. There is little traffic on the road. Thankfully Vic & Baz are feeling a bit slow and lunch doesn't turn into a drinking session. Made and Ketut from the Pub are surprised to see me again as this trip was unplanned. The sates are delicious as always and the beer icy cold.
While I am down Kuta end I realize I can check another thing off my must do list. I hail another Taksi and go around the block to Super Nova to purchase the Martha Tillar skin care that people are raving about. As I entered through the rear of Super Nova where the cosmetic counters are I stumbled across the Biokos range of Martha Tillar products immediately.
I purchased the Day moisturizer / Night Cream / Eye Shield Treatment and the Anti-wrinkle Revitalizing Gel. As part of a special promotion I was given the cleanser and toner for nothing. All up the total cost was about 182,000 rupiah.
By a strange co-incidence, a friend that has worked in the cosmetic industry in Australia for 20 years had told me about a product she bought on Lembongan last August. She had been raving about it, but never mentioned the name. Well guess what ? It turns out to be the Martha Tillar Revitalizing Gel. She is delighted to know this wonder gel is available in Kuta.
The Taksi driver is waiting for me so I can head down to Bintang supermarket . Have promised a friend at home I would purchase the Dating In Indonesian phrase book for them. Another thing I can check off my list. Two in one day...it's a miracle!!
Four years ago I met a family staying at Legian Village hotel and each year since we have crossed paths in Bali at Easter time. This year Kate is traveling with her daughter and step mother and I have been waiting for then to return from Ubud.
Probably around 8.00pm Kate wanders into Billys. Her daughter will not sleep until she sees me. Such a gorgeous little kid so I temporarily leave the Bar and we wander back to Jonis II so I can give the princess a hug and kiss goodnight.
Kate comes back to Billys for a quick drink [should have warned her there ain't no such thing]. The usual suspects are in the bar now. Billy has come down tonight, good to catch up with him again. Tonight the restaurant is doing a good trade. Sitting & chatting I am told the story of a couple Kate met earlier in the evening.
Their first trip to Bali, green as, have fallen for every trick in the book. The porters at the airport scammed $30 AUD for carrying their luggage to the customs counter. They had to carry the bags outside themselves. Such a pity when people are taken advantage of like this. Next stop they went to the beach and were surrounded by sellers. Well they shopped and shopped and were excited to be given black bags [urban myth re: different color bags and your ability to bargain]. Here's the thing, they bought so much stuff when they went to leave they had no money left, so one of the beach sellers took pity on them and gave back 20,000 rupiah so they could get a taksi...... OMG !!!! You live and learn.
One drink turns into many and at 11.00pm we head back to Suri to continue the party with the boys. We have pizza and bourbon waiting for us. I can't help myself when it comes to playing jokes on people and as Kate now seems to have settled in for a session I explain that 2 of my friends are actually a couple and will be married later in the year. The boys are looking at me like ... I am gonna kill you. Kate is a genuinely lovely woman and she is soooo interested to know more about how they met, how their families feel about their relationship etc.
I am beside myself and explain that one of the boys parents have disowned him but that the other one's family are pleased that he has met his true love and had long suspected he had no interest in girls. [I know it's mean to do this but the little voice inside my head keeps saying more, more, more.]
The topic of wedding outfits comes up and I tell Kate about the green fairy dress from Xmas...I ask Katak to go get it from his house. Meanwhile we discuss wedding attire and I suggest a pale pink fairy dress would be suitable for the wedding, all the boys nod in agreement. The ‘Bride to be' says nothing... Upon returning Katak has also brought along his boob stress ball which he proudly shows Kate and which she in turn takes and puts down the front of her top.
It reminds me that I hadn't given Wayan his presents so I hand over his ‘boob'. Kate then has a pair and she is strutting around the room asking the guys for their opinions. They all nod in agreement that she looks great. To top it off I also pull out some of the party stuff for later in the year and she is soon sucking on a glow in the dark penis straw. Now the guys are in hysterics barely able to contain themselves as she moans and groans with every sip of her drink. The laughing, crying and strutting go on for hours.
The ‘Bride to be' is frocked up in the green fairy dress with boobs and the happy couple pose for pictures. I cannot hold it in any longer when one of them says to Kate .."we want children". Without blinking Kate offers to be the surrogate. God bless her!! It is too much for me and the guys cant believe that she hasn't cottoned onto the joke. It is then that I take pity on her and spill the beans.....I cant write what she said, but expletive deletives were involved ...You are a @@!!#*ng $#%ch..!!!!!!! etc etc....
She actually took it really well, but is disappointed there is no wedding...hmmm I will see about that....
I have some hysterically funny photos from that night and no I cant show them so please don't ask. Kate's quick drink finished at 4.00am when she decided that she should call it a night.. Six year olds don't understand that mummy has been out drinking all night. Thank god her step mum was on this trip with her. She doesn't normally get to have a ‘girls night out' when in Bali.
The bourbon is all drunk, most of the pizza gone and it is 4.45am when the 6 laki laki nakal depart. A decision is taken to throw Nyoman in the pool. It's a tradition that someone gets chucked in when we party....
He is begging for it not to be him and has arms and legs wrapped around his motorbike but the other boys slowly strip him of wallet, mobile phone, guitar etc and then pry his arms and then legs from the bike.....one, two, three and in he goes... [Sorry hon but your turn this trip!!!] ... Bad boys, bad boys what cha' gonna do when they come for you...bad boys, bad boys...
Tbc...: -)
