Melasti Beach Resort?

Hi everyone!
Will be visiting Bali with my parents for their long overdue vacation. Want them to have a great time, but is conscious of budget too. Would like to know if Melasti Beach Resort is pleasant and how far is the walk to Kuta Town Center?

Also, are hotels in Bali fussy about the number of guests staying in a room? (ie... do they charge the 3rd person in a double room?)

Another thing, where/which area would you recommend for a single day trip OUT of Kuta?(Effectively only three days there :( )
