How soon do you start packing?

I was thinking about this as I was putting some purchases in my new carry on bag that I had bought exclusively for the Bali trip. I bought the bag in August and found some Iowa t-shirts on sale and thought that they might be nice for some of my friends in Bali. Then I saw some sunscreen/bug repellent... so I have started packing 8 and half months ahead of my trip. Anyone beat that?
