Bali smell?

I've been to Bali twice before the first time in 1980 the second in 1997 and I'll be going again in a couple of weeks.

What I want to know is what is this "Bali smell" I've been reading about?

I can faintly remember a smell of humid earth mixed with.... perhaps lush overgrowth of tropical plants...is that the smell?

Or as someone else said, is it a smell of open sewerage?
