I work in a largely asian populated suburb of Melbourne and quite often will get a whiff of the indo cigarettes and to me, thats what takes me right back to Bali, also some cooking spices.

I think its a mixture of the earth, bit of sewerage, cooking, cigarettes and car fumes. Its not a really feral smell and you only really notice it for the first half hour in Bali and then you are immune to it.
