I live outside Perth WA and obtained 60 day visas at the Indonesian Consulate in Perth. This was simple and took only a few days. But this is the consulate in my own country, maybe different if you are trying to get one in Malaysia for instance. Also you have to start using it within a specified time.

Sounds like a wonderful trip you are planning.
