Ubud a great base for the family - you will be able to explore monkey forest road and all the stalls/ markets/ eateries - go to elephant park (about 1/2 hour or so away from Ubud); arrange to go white water rafting; do a downhill bike road from kintamnai back to ubud; see some amazing dances at night in the palaces and look also for the shadow puppets in Ubud, and thats just for starters. Theres a range of cooking lessons available if any in the family are interested. Im sure others will also add to this list.
