first day in Kuta

Its our first full day in kuta and it seems really hectic and in your face especially with all the hawkers every couple of steps. Were staying in a small (very humid as poor air con) hotel by poppies lane 2 which is scary to walk down at night. We were thinking of moving away from Kuta to a near by town that is more relaxing and not as busy as kuta. If anyone can please let us know any other good near areas to stay in or recomendable hotels in kuta, please let us know asap.
