Three weeks ago we were at Kuta,Lombok staying at the beautiful Novotal hotel. We hired motorbikes and travelled west checking out the surf breaks, going as far as Selong Blank approx 45minutes from Kuta.
On the way back near Mawi we were ambushed by two men in balaclavas as we neared the top of a steep incline. They knocked my husband and myself off the bike by running out of the bush with a large club aimed at the head.While on the ground I was stabbed in the leg to prevent me from trying to get away. My husband was held with a knife at his stomach and I had a knife to my throat.
They then robbed us and escaped back into the hills. We feel we are lucky to be alive, I had 13 stitches in my leg.
I am writting this as a warning to other surfers and travellers who are planning a trip to South Lombok.
Since telling our story we have heard about many other bad experiences travellers have had in Lombok and have been warned that it is happening all the time.
Beware also of hiring motorbikes from the locals with no insurance, we think there is a scam going on.
