I accept that curious george makes a valid point by saying that I have insufficient experience - I went to the beach more than twice, but on the two occasions I planned to swim and relax in the sun on the sand, I returned to the hotel pool after only a while. We walked up and down the beach, ate near the beach, bought from hawkers on the beach - but on my first visit I expected lots of soft sand and palm trees and peace....
So what inexperienced Bali-lovers need are some good descriptions of the special features of some of the beaches, and directions as to how to get to the secluded ones that tourists don't visit because they don't know where to look.
I am going back in six weeks, and I would love to find a beach to relax on with clean safe swimming. I also will look up the archives - but I think I have read most postings about the beaches.
I await you all to educate me. Or i will have to stay in the hotel compound and only swim with the other tourists who don't know where to look for the best of the 'real Bali'.
Thanks for sharing.
