Kay, I realize you qualified your answer with "limited experience of Bali beaches" but I would think that limited experience would prevent you from (instead of causing you to) making general statements like: "the beaches in Bali are not quite the standard ..." and "you can have an enjoyable time at Bali beaches, but...".
I had to laugh out loud when you then commented "I went onto Tuban beach a few times...". Is that the basis for your general comments about Bali beaches?
Tuban is a tiny, tiny fraction of the Bali coastline. While I agree with your assessment of Tuban beach, I can assure you that there are some beautiful, secluded beaches as well as some spectacular coastal vistas. Of course, none of them are in the Jimbaran to Seminyak strip. You have to get out and explore.
Nina, if you're reading this, I realize you are looking for information but in this case I will only encourage you to go exploring. One of the reasons the secluded beaches are so great is that so few people make the effort to leave the tourist centers. I would rather leave it that way. To give directions to all the best spots is just to encourage the lazy to crowd them also. I like to think of the best spots as a reward for the ambitious and adventurous and the crowded spots as the just desserts for the lazy and hung-over.
Nina, I'll also be there for the month of September. email me direct if you want to chat about things.
