As it's one of the oldest scams in the book, he got done one day. He was out by himself and returned to the Villa we were all staying in bragging about what a good exchange rate he just received. Instantly we told him he just got scammed, and sure enough not believing us he counted his money in front of us and came up around 220,000 rupiah short, around $25 at the time from $200.. Three of us headed back to the money changer immediately but he'd already shut shop and left. It was a lesson learned the hard way, but could only laugh it off. We still give him a hard time about it.
