Yes Thailand is notorious for the "damage" scam. Saw a European guy arguing with a Thai man over supposed damage to his rented bike, he had taken loads of pics from every angle on his iPhone but still the guy insisted he had damaged the bike. Which is another good reason not to leave your passport cos if you don't pay you don't get your passport back and they know you need your passport! I'm off to Bali next week for a week then to Thailand for 2 weeks but won't be renting a scooter at either place, I'll stick to my pushbike lol
