My understanding (from just about every source imaginable) is that up until a few weeks ago, Australians had to pay USD35 for VOA (Visa On Arrival) to enter Bali. This was paid in the arrivals hall at the airport before you go through Immigration and enter Bali.
Very recently, the Indonesian government has decided to waive that fee for all Australians staying for less than 30 days. No extensions beyond that ampount of time are available. Previously, I believe, you could extend it for another 30 days if you so desired.
Now if you intend staying longer than 30 days you have to pay the required fee, although I'm not sure what that fee is (I'm assuming USD35) and you still do that at the VOA counter at the airport on arrival.
What I was saying to Terry was that they still have the VOA counter there for people intending to stay longer than 30 days. If you approach the counter they will assume you intend staying in Bali for longer than 30 days and will proceed to extract USD35 from you.
If you're staying less than 30 days, simply walk past the VOA counter and you can get into Bali for free.
I'm sure it's possible to still acquire a longer term visa from here in Australia at the Indonesian Embassy before you leave, but can't see why you would go through the rigmarole if you can do it easily at the VOA counter when you get there.
Or have I missed something?
