Still loving Bali. Last Friday night we were taken out for dinner to Warung Campeong at Jimbaran. If you looked at this place you probably wouldn't go in, certainly not luxurious but the food was fantastic and incredibly cheap. Our host went over the top and ordered enough for a small army. We loved it!
Saturday night we were booked into Mozzarella by the sea for Beatles night. Now this really is a great night. The Beatles cover band were so good you almost thought you were listening to records. They sang non-stop for an hour and then BANG, the power went off! After some impromtu Beatles songs by the packed diners, which was quite hilarious, the power came back on after about 45 minutes. It was very interesting to see how the staff coped with serving meals with no power. They did amazingly well. The band then played for another hour. This was a great night. Would really recommend it.
Sunday morning off to the airport for domestic flight to Lombok. Problem-Wings Air luggage allowance only 10 kg so we were 12 kg over! Not really a problem because cost for 12 kgs was $6.60! Unbelievable. Quick 30 minute flight and we're landing at Praya, which unfortunately is far from Sengiggi. Cost $25 for driver to Kebun Villas in Sengiggi. Loved this place, fantastic pool about 80 metres long! Lovely staff until wife broke a glass and we were informed it would be $10 to replace. Being a bit of a Scrooge I objected strongly and said "no way."
Next day hired a driver for a tour around. I went out prepared to haggle for $50 for the day, but his first price was $40 so all happy. He took us to pottery village, weaving village and traditional village and then down to Kuta Beach, which quite frankly was a real dump! (Not being a surfer) had lunch then back to Mataram Mall, where Lo and behold I find identical glasses for $1.40! So I bought one to replace broken item and problem solved! Hotel accepted this so conflict avoided. I said I was Scrooge!
Overall Lombok is lovely, beautiful people, great food. Our favourite restaurants in Sengiggi - Asmara (free transport to and from hotel), Bumbu, Yesssee Cafe and Taman,
owned by Peter Duncan. South Aussies will remember that name. We did enjoy our time there.
Thursday morning, back to airport for flight back to Bali. Surprise- still overweight! This time $4.40 fee. Great views on the way back, Agung, Nusa Penida, Lembongan and Uluwatu. Now in Sanur for 5 days. (To be continued)
