I buy jewellery in Bali/Indonesia but would never consider having valuable pieces reworked there just to save a little money. It's just not worth the risk. I do have some experience to fall back on so I'm comfortable in stating this. Not like Rhonda and her poor husband unfortunately.
Rhonda has said she has "written this off to experience" and her obvious lack of experience in these matters is the cause of the problem in the first place.I feel sorry for elderly couples like Rhonda and her husband Roger in Bali as they seem so far out of their depth trying to negotiate things correctly and communicate with the locals there. Good luck to them but it's no good crying over split milk.
