If there really was a duty of care it wasn't demonstrated when I flew home in March. By bags didn't go through a single xray machine prior to check in. I was asked by a guy walking along the check in line if I had lighters or alcohol in my bags, neither of which I had. So he put an orange "security checked" sticker on my bags and moved on to the next person in line.
I'll see how I go tomorrow night. I still won't have any lighters or alcohol in my bags though.
