Well I did some calcs of the cheapest price I could find for the suites online or through an agent and worked out it was around $330 a night. We really wanted a suite but i was not willing to pay that much and if i could not get any cheaper then we did not mind staying in a Premium Deluxe in any event.

So, my tactics was to get a room i would be happy with if i could not get an upgrade - and then calculate what i would be willing to pay at check it for an upgrade that would still save me some money on the listed prices.

I booked a Premium Deluxe through the Hard Rock website during a promotion at $149-$179 a night and then when we arrived at check-in I asked for an upgrade - the chances of an upgrade to a suite for free was not going to happen ! I slipped the check-in girl a nice tip and asked for the best rate for an upgrade to a suite. Her first few prices were pretty high but we settled on an accpetable price per night that saved me around $100 per night on booking a suite direct - happy days !!!

Kids suites are first to be booked out so you are unlikley to get one of those but they often seem to have some of the deluxe suites available. They make up the large day bed for the kids - if they are not more than about 7 years old it should be OK. You then have two large sliding doors to the main bedroom which at least allows mum and dad to read or watch a little TV before retiring.

Hope that helps.
