and I quote..

"CHANGE AGENTS

A recent trip back to Bali after 30 years renewed my love of the place and its people but unfortunately, repeated scamming by money changers in Kuta soured our experiences somewhat. Small-time money changers insist on counting your money in small denominations and then handing it to you, and it's not until you check it later that you realise they have short-changed you by up to $30. If you demand to recount the money in front of them, they sometimes produce the extra money, but will then insist on a commission or do not have any more change. Their sleight of hand is quite amazing, so the message is to stand your ground and recount the piles carefully and don't let them handle the money again, or pay the extra and change your money in hotels.
