I won't go for Idul Fitri again either. I was at the Melasti in Legian and the hotel was at capacity. Breakfast was chaos because Indonesians don't do "orderly lines" very well, so it was push or go hungry. Then when you did get to the food, there was little left because they were all filling up big tupperware tubs to take for lunch, lol.
And traffic - as you said, easier to get out and walk most of the time.
I always check the dates before booking now.
