I pay the little extra for seat alloction then pick my seats. The reason is that once I left until last minute (when we booked in) then we were all split up over the plane. Me in the rear rows wife up the front and son somewhere else.
Now I pick an aisle seat pick a window for the wife. Generally the middle is not allocated and we have three seats between two of us. When someone gets allocated the middle seat we usually ask them to swap. They can take the window or aisle. only ever happened once 8 other trips the seat was vacant,
Perth has a separate line for web check in which is usually faster.
We came home from Bali two weeks ago. Had 30kg each. two cases 21kg each and one at 10kg all went under. No problems. My reason I was going to give was that I was trying to save the baggage handlers backs. when 40kg, each bag is not allowed to weigh more that 32kg anyway.
