No set starting price.
Start really low. 20%. First day I never go above 40% and usually don't buy anything as they will not come to my price.
This gives me an idea of a price for the various items I want to buy. Then the fun begins with serious haggling.
Remember there is 100 stalls selling the same item up the street.
Example 3 weeks ago I tried to buy a very colourful cotton hand bag. Starting price was 70 USD, yes but "they are hand made in Thailand." The item is $38 in Aust. but they would not come down below $50 USD. Know your items price.
