Yesterday afternoon, we jumped on the motorbike (with mini Ogoh Ogoh
taped to the front) and headed up Tengahan Road. In one of the villages
up near the end there was around 9 Ogoh Ogo's - very nice workmanship !
Then we went to visit a friend, then came back via Sengkidu, where there
was 10 Ogoh Ogoh's along with a huge gathering for a ceremony,
where after they all marched off down the road towards Ulakan.

Then around 8pm, the Ogoh Ogoh's were picked up and paraded
down the street (towards Candidasa for a few hundred meters),
turned back and went the other way, back past us, and on futher through
the village towards the beach where they were to be burnt.
Many many people in the street to see it all - locals and tourists.
It was great !

Than at 6am this morning (31st), all the motorbikes / trucks and cars
just vanished ... then around 7am the Pacalang started their rounds,
to make sure everyone stayed quiet. We went out to our gate,
I had a talk to one of the guys, and he let me come out into
the street for a photo up and down, then a short movie - again just
up and down the street. So so quiet ... fantastic !

All day today we have just been at the villa, walking sometimes
to the ocean end to look out, then again sometimes just to the front gate,
just to take it all in - again fantastic !

Just had a salad sandwich for lunch, and last night Louise prep'd our
dinner for tonight (so no chop chop noise today nor stove,
although you can use gas, just not a log / smoke fire).

Around 6pm, looking up (from the ocean end of the villa) towards the
north east end of CD, we noticed some idiot tourists out on the
breakwater, and some sitting in one of the breakwater gazebos.
Oh how I wished the Pacalang were close by, I would have pointed them
out very quickly - just NO RESPECT. Some of them were kids, so where
are the parents ?? ... again all the hotels / villas etc are given
details about today, which is then passed onto guests.
If you break the rules, you can be fined, and the hotel can also be fined.

APART from that, the day has been great, time to reflect and also just nice
to hear yourself think !

Candidasa is still all blacked out; I'm hiding in a room with the curtains drawn
typing this up, but loving it all.

Then, after 6am tomorrow morning, it all kicks back into action.
I just wonder who will be the first nong to ride down the street
on his motorbike ~ with modified exhaust, flat chat ?? (bah !)

In the words of Darryl Kerrigan (from the Castle movie) ...
... "Ah, the serenity" ...

(I wonder if Bonnie Doon was this quiet today ?)

Enjoy the rest of Nyepi - we are.

p.s., to th nob head that gave you the finger and choice words,
may his chotch be infested with a million fire ants tonight
(oh, make that tomorrow, after 6am, he will make too much noise tonight !)
