Can't really speak for the places you mention but we go to the beach at Kuta and generally spend the day there. We usually have enough cash for food, drinks, etc. don't take our room key (leave that at reception.),take our towels, ipod, sunblock and that's about it. we just buy drinks from one of the drink sellers on the beach and he always looks after our stuff. We have never had a problem but our rule of thumb is don't take anything we are not prepared to lose and only take enough cash that if it's "lost" it's not the end of the world!
