any left over alchohol, normally transfer it to water bottles so it doesn't weigh as much and have never been questioned and they cannot legally take it from you if it is your checked luggage. It is your problem if you are over the limit when you arrive back in Oz, not their job to monitor this. Have done it numerous times from Bali, Phuket and a couple of weeks ago from NZ as well. Not a problem.
