That's a shame.

A bad holiday can really change your outlook on a place if you let it, but that sort of thing can happen anywhere really.

In 2004 I was holidaying in Sanur and had my backpack swiped with my SLR camera and camcorder inside.
I spent what was supposed to be a very relaxing last day in Bali at the Sanur Police Station filling out reports for my insurance claim.
The police officer was more interested in how much money he was going to extract from me for the service of typing out the report than doing anything about the theft.
I was so jaded about Bali I didn't go again for 5 years.
When I eventually returned I decided that I didn't really like southern Bali quite so much any more and started venturing further afield a bit. More and more now I'm giving the south (particularly Kuta/Legian) a wide berth.
This year I'm going to give Lombok a try.

In retrospect you're probably thinking that you shouldn't have taken your toddler in the wet season. Throw in a bit of bad luck with sickness and theft and your well earned yearly holiday is ruined.

I totally hear what you're saying about 'lost charm', but try a few other destinations and then maybe re-visit in a few years in May/June when the little one's a bit older.

It's still a great holiday destination. Just need a bit of better planning next time......and not so much bad luck.

All the best and thanks for sharing.
