We now drive ourselves around on our visits to Bali, But it took about 6 visits to Bali before we did. Next visit in May we are getting the car delivered to the airport, first time. We usually have the car dropped of at our hotel in Tuban. We then head out of the Kuta area and head up the the east coast eg Candidasa or Amed and then continue on our journey around Bali, staying at many different places along the way. Our holiday ends back in Tuban/Kuta, but apart from driving to our hotel we do not drive in this area as the traffic is crazy.

The traffic in Bali only travels slowly and you have to watch the other traffic all of the time. I would suggest you either get the Bali maps on a GPS to help find your way, or I have purchased a good street directory in Bali. Most of the time we just follow the rest of the traffic especially when going around round abouts, it is not the same as at home.

As the other person said parking is not much of a problem. You only pay a couple of dollars at the most anywhere and they do help you by stopping traffic so you can get the car back into traffic when leaving.

Good luck if you decide to drive in Bali. I wouldn't on your first trip unless you do it after a few days to get your bearings, but it all up to you if you do.
