The driver is just shoring up his business. There is no difference driving in Indonesia than in any other country. There will be congested and high traffic areas and differences in road conditions for good and bad, the same as anywhere else. If you ride a motorbike in Bali why wouldn't you drive a car? Same as anyway, you are much safer and better protected in a car than on a bike.
