A lovely quiet two-bedroom villa with a pool could be just the trick. If he's a bit of an escape artist, you might need to factor that into the design though as some villa bedrooms are not internal. There are some villas with big pools on flipkey.
We stayed in a two bedroom apartment with pool within the novotel Nusa Dua. That might be something to think about if you like a hotel environment. I didn't enjoy it much - Nusa Dua is too quiet for me - but a lot of people like it and it's certainly much more orderly than the other tourist areas. The beach was beautiful too, but very windy mid-year with a strong current.
