Using Partners AirAsia luggage question?

Probably not quite the usual forum query, but..............
It appears that my husband may have to travel directly from Bali to Bangkok for business at the end of our already booked Bali holiday in October 2013.
It doesn't seem worth the hassle & small refund (if any) to cancel his one way return airfare with AirAsia from Bali to Perth.
Has anyone successfully used their travel partner's (we share the same booking & itinerary) luggage allowance, when that second guest did not check-in?
We have paid for 20kgs of luggage for him & 35kgs for myself, but as I have ordered paintings & other homewares, I had expected to use just a few kgs of his allowance on our return flight, seeing that he hardly ever buys anything to bring back.
After all, we have paid for the flight, extra legroom & luggage, which he won't be using & for which we won't be refunded. Plus there will be no passenger replacing him if we don't cancel his booking.
I am curious to hear others' stories or experiences in this regard, before I contact AirAsia to ask them the same question!
Cheers Addy
