I travel pretty cheaply when I go to Indo on my own, so this info may help:)
You can still get good Losmen type accom for about 100 000 per night but it will be a fan room with cold water shower, a 'pour to flush' toilet and no pool. If you stay a bit further out and not right on the beach, 200 000 will get you a pool, though I'm sure there are people out there that will tell you you can do cheaper. Check out the link below, it gives you an idea of the places available smack bang in the middle of Kuta.
Your kids may want a pool, being the age that they are, but if you get close enough to the beach, you may be able to get around this.

If you are traveling around Bali and staying away from the tourist areas, your accom dollar will go a LOT further. I stayed on Nusa Penida recently (check it out for an authentic Indonesian experience) and lived in excellent and clean accom with wifi for 100 000 and was paying next to nothing for food.
Good Indonesian meals (nasi campur etc) are easy to find for 15 000rp and are still excellent value if you and your kids are happy to 'eat local'
If you intend on traveling around and self drive a decent car will set you back about 250 000 per day over a 4 day period, cheaper for longer. I found this to be the best option when I traveled with others. A scooter will cost about 40 to 50 thousand per day.
