I use simpati (telkomsel) the phone sims and Data are the same. You buy a sim and have where-ever you buy it charge the sim up.
Many places and many different prices. Basic sim cards start at 2,000rp to 100,000rp depending on who is ripping you off and over-charging. Then you pay for top up. The top up is your choice.
WHAT I DO. There is a place on the top floor of Discovery who only charge to 2,000 or 5,000 for the sim then I add 100,000rp. I put the sim in my tablet and it works fine. There is another place on Melasti Street where you do not get charged excessive amounts for the card and top up. Many shops will top up for a small fee. The one in Melasti Street charges 5,000rp for the service. 100,000rp ($11.00 AUD) lasts me about 2 weeks depending on how much internet I use.
You only need the cardboard cover with the number to top up.
Anyway that's how I have done it for the last 4 years. I actually tell A lie, I keep my sim card and keep topping it up and when I go over there is enough credit to last me for the trip.
