I had an accident on a bike a couple of years go whilst in bali. Ran up the back of a truck. Smashed up the front end pretty bad. Front forks bent and a lot of plastic broken. Took it back expecting the worst. Hirer told me he would take it to his "cousin" to get a quote to fix. Went back the next day expecting to pay a bomb for the inconvenience. He almost apologetically requested the equivalent of about A$45 for the repairs, and promptly hired me another bike. Happy Days! As to riding and being pulled over by Polisi. Fold up IR20,000 in the rental papers and leave it permanently under your seat. If you get pulled over and asked for your licn. (And like me you don't have one) hand him the document. They will generally take the money and let you go. If they demand more, tell them you have no more and give them the keys to the bike instead. This now becomes a headache for them and they hand you back the bike keys and move you on.
