I would not ride over there without insurance cover. As Hilary said, if anything happens and you need intensive medical care, you may be in a lot of financial worry! You won't be covered if you have no international driving permit, which is endorsed with your motorbike licence.

Seriously, why not just go get your licence in Oz like my 3 girlfriends did. In the last 12 months since our last trip, they got their L's... scooter and their full licence and now are ready to ride legally in Bali. It's a lot cheaper than getting in a prang with no insurance.

I do watch some of the stpid foreigners (not just aussies) ride over there, and it's those ones who end up skidding on their arses when they dodge and weave, but miss. Just be sensible. For some it appears getting on a scooter is a licence to be a twat.. I find riding them I am more careful because of how light they are compared to my harley..

Most hirers also have insurance on the bikes, if they're reputable.

My two bob's worth.

Cheers

Lisa
