Reports on people's experiences are what keeps drawing me back to the forum.

Sometimes I get nostalgic reminders of things we have enjoyed; sometimes I find myself thinking "well that's not for me" and sometimes I get suggestions for a place to visit or a place to eat that I note down for our next visit.

I think that sometimes long-term members of the forum forget the excitment of new visitors.

A workmate spoke to me about their first visit next month. I made a couple of very basic suggestions, but said the real thrill of Bali is in the learning.

Some of our greatest memories are of paying way too much for a hat or a manicure; going to a bar where we really felt out of place (but had each other and what a wonderful bonding experience that is); felt good about giving a younr girl with a baby on her hip some cash only to later find out what was really going on; getting a taxi to a restaurant only to find it was only two blocks away (but being taken on a long and winding tour of Kuta and Legian).

Put it this way: If you get told how a magic trick actually works, is it still magic?

So let the blogs continue. Let me secretly scoff at some, be amused by others and learn from those who have seen and done things I have not considered.

And explain to me again why my watch stopped on the plane home; the lighter shaped like a grenade was seized at customs, and the kite and spinning/hovering thing doesn't work in New Zealand.
