Sorry to hear of your debacle with your insurance. Having said that, not sure how you could claim for accommodation considering you used your accommodation to the full time that was booked.
We have claimed a couple of times for medical on our insurance (Westpac Gold Card) and we have never had a hassle at all. I had to claim for a dislocated elbow when I fell in the hotel, but even though it really wrecked the holiday as could not do the things that I had planned or booked for, I managed to stay in the hotel so therefore could not claim for accommodation - only could claim for the medical expenses, xrays and hospital treatment to fix the elbow. Could not have been better.
