We went to the races a few years ago (August I think)- honestly we were keen to go and not impressed when we did. The spectacle and atmosphere was really interesting but its 'barbaric'. They belt the buffalo with a stick embedded with nails - the animals all beautifully dressed for the occasion finish the race with huge welts and bleeding. There were not many tourists there and too be honest I would suggest the locals may probably be happier if we stayed away
