Just back and thought I must put something back into the system as I got some great tips from this forum - thanks everyone.

Travel Insurance - I didn't need to claim so I'm not sure what they're like at the other (more important) end of the business, but I purchased 1cover insurance as it's 5 star rated by Cannex - was half the cost of the airline insurance offer and to top it off you get an itunes voucher for referring a friend (if there are a few of you travelling).

Arrived Saturday night (1 Sept) - not much of a Customs queue but an officer was walking around offering people to go to the (empty) non-foreigner lanes for Rp10,000. A few people at the back of the line took up the offer.

I bought a Rp50,000 SIM card from the Red Simpati tent which is located along the walkway to the carpark (after your driver has collected you). It was enough for a few local phone calls (to tailors, drivers etc) and text messages back home. Of course they had more/less expensive cards - depends on your useage pattern.

Arrived at C151 Villa - big, spacious, luxurious, 2 bedrooms, 3 complete bathrooms, 15m private pool, modern - I have never stayed at a villa before and can see why so many people do. You have so much more space, but I did have to get out often to feel like I was actually in another country. I'm not convinced I'm a villa person yet.

Meals - Sarong- always divine - you must like spicy food though, H'uu - not bad, lovely ambiance but Sarong sets the benchmark for fine dining. Biku high tea - there were 4 of us so we shared both English and Asian versions - both lovely - a nice afternoon (had booked the fortune teller as well - she was an Australian woman - we all had quite similar readings but for Rp80,000 it was a bit of fun). Sari Organik in the middle of the rice paddies of Ubud - lovely food and the walk to it is part of the experience, really felt like I was in Bali. It's near Campuhan bridge - you'll need to google it - bit of a hill at the beginning but don't be put off, it flattens out for most of the way (they say 800m walk, I'd say it's a bit longer).

Bars - Zappaz (Seminyak) - live music and they also get tourists up to sing - some AWESOME talent in the crowd. Potato Head - always feel this place is a bit pretentious but I must say, the waves crashing right next to you on the beach are spectacular. Had a drink at one of the beach bars on the sand at the end of Jalan 66 (Kuta/Legian) - what a lovely way to see the sunset!

Tailor - had some clothes I'd bought online altered at Komangs (Rp150,000 each) and was on my way to one of the cushion cover places mentioned on this forum but the lady at Komengs convinced me that her work would last forever so I had a cover made for my daybed seat (Rp300,000 - my own fabric)and 2 cushions (her fabric - Rp150,000 ea). Oh well not the cheapest, but better than back home and they did a marvelous job.

Fave purchases - bikinis - there is a lot of good quality swimwear in the stores and really, unless you are larger than size 16/18 - I wouldn't bother going to the hassle of buying fabric and getting them made (my own opinion) I bought some at Blue Glue - they have lots of stores. Paintings - always a personal taste and value for money issue but I bought a gorgeous painting at Mystic - Jln Kunti Seminyak for A$110. Croc thongs - so light and comfy. And loads of stuff that has a one off use - I can spend hours in the supermarkets and apotiks looking at (and buying) all the different stuff. For example - crazy I know, but Vape Mozzie coils (tracked them down at Carrefour) don't have that nasty insecticide smell, more like Balinese incense - to remind you of your holiday once you get home.

Tips - of course take a second bag like a strong duffel bag or similar, small bottle of hand sanitiser is handy for a quick clean up after you've been trawling through dusty goods to pick out the nicest piece (I think you can buy it there). Check your change after you've had a few drinks in bars as we noticed on more than one occasion there was an extra drink on the tab (not Zappas - not naming names - may have been a genuine mistake). There are 2 plastic bag wrap outfits right near the check in area once you're inside the airport - handy to keep goods together like paintings and those odd things that don't fit in a bag. People may try to sell you a coupon for the service before you enter the airport but it's not necessary.

Happy travelling!
