I think that it all depends on where you choose to eat as to what to wear. If it is an upmarket restaurant or in a flash hotel then yes a nice shirt and trousers or even dress shorts but if it is in one of the hundreds on the streets then you can wear more casual clothes. As for shoes I would go more for a nice pair of leather sandals, as closed in shoes and socks would be far too hot. Just do not wear socks with the sandals! LOL As for the hat you can buy really nice Fedoras over there for a few dollars that look really nice on guys. I have seen lots of men wear them of a night as well, not sure if it still to keep the sun off their heads or if it is because they have "no hair" to cover! LOL The most important thing though to remember with whatever you choose to wear is to make sure it is cotton or linen as anything polyester or nylon etc is like wearing plastic. Can't help with the single thing as I have never been single in Bali! LOL Have a great time and I look forward to reading about your trip when you do a JBR.
