I am so glad you posted yours and I hope everyone else does too as here in Aus we have the local news and television to warn us of every incident everyday but in Indo or anywhere else in the world where you travel you dont get all the street news of what is happening right there where you are staying and what to be aware of. We have been travelling to Bali since '75 now up to 3 or 4 times a year now and we travel to many other Asia destinations as well regularly and over the years have only had a couple of incidents .. one in Bali where my husband was casually walking down Padma Utara behind Padma Hotel with a friend and my then 10 year old son, I was in front with older 12 year old son and 2 indo girls on a bike pulled up next to husband, the one on the back jumped off the bike approached my husband and with one hand grabbed him on the balls and the other hand attempted to grab his wallet out of his pocket but my husband heard the velcro and his reflex was to punch her away in which she fell back on the road and quickly jumped back on the bike and took off .. we have actually joked over this incident for years saying we think there was a pause between hands but in the same place now nicknamed handbag alley a lady had her handbag snatched and we were dining at Bamboo Corner at the time(now Spiders Bar) and we heard the screams.. next thing you know the Melasti guards gave chase and ended up catching the thief and slit his throat (so we heard on the grape vine) so we warned everyone NEVER walk with your bag on the road side which makes convenient bag snatching and DO TELL all, any incident as I want to know so I can be aware .. no way would I give up on Bali cos of these incidents as they happen everywhere Thailand, Vietnam, Sri Lanka some of my other favourite destinations and it all happens there too just dont put yourself in a position of vulnerablility..
