I having been going to bali for over 25 years have never been scared or worried but lately my trips I am aware when alone of treatment from some of the balinese men I dress appropriately I respect their customs,I speak indonesian so have always felt safe but now at night in bali Im very careful of where I go!But the most frightening experience for me was last year in November schoolies in Legian hundreds of drunken kids everywhere driving bikes, fighting, falling on roads etc. a group drunken aussie kids jumped in front of my hubbys motor bike nearly causing an accident (us going into another car)my husband told them to move and a larger kid threw punch at my husband missed and hit me knocked me off bike into oncoming traffic. I hurt my shoulder and was terrified as the rest of the group surrounded us it was a frightening experience it was only when some of my balinese friends saw what happened and came to our rescue!I would never be in bali again at schoolie time this year will be thousand times worse as they now know they can go to bali and do whatever they want without restriction goodbye peaceful bali!
