Last Day :(
I wake in anticipation of our last brekky. Please let there be jerky bacon to sustain me in this last long day we have in Beautiful Bali. I practically skip to to the restaurant , contemplating the etiquette of the ‘waiting line' Truth be told, i am not above a ‘clothesline tackle ‘ to take out my fellow diners that may be trying to consume my bacon jerky.
I enter the buffet room flexing my muscles to send fear into my peers but alas i am flexing in vain! No bacon! I wonder if it is acceptable to cry at this stage. I swear my friend thinks it's hilarious and offers somewhat kindly to get my toast And my butter while i pull myself together and join the egg station line. I settle for poached eggs ( which incidentally were delish ) fried rice, fruit and potatoes. Poor me lol.
Off to pack our bags for our flight later this evening and to see if there is any room left for more essential purchases- one can never have enough bintang shirts, or bandaids, tiger balm and mr P's.....
We met up with one of the couples and show them to Ketut's fixed price store. How easy is it here? i cannot tell you how many mudmaps we have drawn to Ketut's for our friends and other hotels guests. Made remembers us for all our previous visits lol but unfortunately Ketut was not there. We easily drop a cool million and wait while our friends discover all the goodies without the stress of haggling.
Back to the hotel and reception have kindly allowed us a 2.00pm checkout, i think they are trying to make up for the bacon . We re pack our bulging bags and lay around veging out till we have to go.
The poor porter who came to collect our luggage almost ran away when he saw our stash of bags. I am sure he got a work out going down the ramp from the 3rd floor. 10/10 for not letting that baby get away from him. We made sure we raced down and was safely at the bottom incase it went awol!
As we weren't going to the airport till 9ish that night they tied our bags up in the foyer which left us free to kill some hours.
We decide with much arm twisting ( not) to go to Pip's on Melasti st for a massage. We discovered this gem last visit and it is our new fave. Oh the joy of choosing the oils to use lol
With time on our hands we settle for a massage, body scrub and facial. 2 hours of pure bliss. Now by no means am i a prude but i am still getting used to having to take off my bra for the massage. I have perfected the 'take it off , cover the boosies with my arm and slide onto the bed move ' rather eloquently me thinks.
But then comes the roll over.
I had not anticipated them feeling the need to use the body scrub on the boosies. Play it cool i think and i pretend to be asleep. I feel much better knowing my dear friend next door is going through the same mortification and i start to smile. I then worry the masseuse might think i am enjoying it a little too much and require a happy ending so i go back to playing dead. Funnily enough, dear friend was thinking the same :)
Time for the wash off of the scrub and i can't pretend to sleeping whilst standing so we talk about the weather haha. Embarrassment aside the massage was heaven on earth and the facial awesome too. I know you can get it cheaper, but we were more than happy to part with 190,000 plus tips because she was subjected to massaging to my magnum enhanced muffin tops.
We float off up the street to Lemon Grass Thai restaurant on Melasti st for a belated lunch. They had 2 for 1 cocktails which was mighty fine by us. We shared mixed entree which had beef sate, spring rolls, fish cakes and calamari. The dipping sauces and peanut sate sauce were divine. ( 53,000 rp ) Is it poor form to eat left over peanut sate sauce with spoon?
They also brought out a tasting plate with spoons of beef salad, fried rice ect for us to try. They were scrumptious! I ordered the Gwitia Pad Thai ( 65,000 ) and my friend the pork belly. I wish we had tried this restaurant earlier in our stay, it was definitely one of the best meals i have had in Bali and the staff were great too. They will also deliver to your hotel.
All too soon we have to head to the airport to leave our beloved Bali.
Would we stay at the Melasti again, yep we would. The garden style cottages look very nice and the staff were all great. I would just avoid the older block. The location is so convenient, with fabbo restaurants and shopping close by.
Hanging my head out the taxi i take in the last smells and sounds. We got straight through check in and cruise upstairs to a cafe to await boarding.
The flight was ok but there was one point in takeoff where we thought the plane wasn't going up as high as it should and the engine screaming to my left sure helped to send that surge of adrenaline through me.
I am not sure if the look dear friend is giving is fear or accusation for my heavy bags. When all else fails, pretend to sleep, it has worked for me on other occasions...
The plane lands on time just after 4.00am and we are out of customs ect by 4.35am and back to reality!.
This has definitely been one of my best Bali trips and we are already planning the next one in August. We laughed so much, ate obscene amounts and had so much fun.
I think one of the best bits would have to be the people, both Balinese and other tourists. It is funny when we are over there, talking to complete strangers is so easy. I definitely come home humble about my own life and incredibly grateful for all i have. I try to emulate that Balinese smile and carefree attitude.
Now how many more sleeps to go to our next adventures.........
