I usually look for a middle of the road rate, sometimes use Circle K to play it safe. But if I use a street trader I-
*Never do business up an alley.
*Never change more than $100 to avoid attracting too much attention.
*Always keep my $100 close to me.
*Never hand over my $100 unless I am last to count the Rph.
*Always ask for an example (If I give you $100, you will give me), this avoids last second commission adding.
I've never been ready to negoiate with the above points & have never had a problem. However, after stating I will be last to count the Rph, I have had 2 traders not want to do business. They must have had bad intentions because the rate was pretty good.
A rate too good to be true, or far better than the store next door (in a highly competitve environment) probably isnt true.
Good luck
