If, however the seal was broken and/or the packaging was suspect they have every right to address the issue and perhaps even confiscate, just as scissors, nail clippers, lighters etc have been taken everywhere in the past.
The last thing that an airline wants is neat spirits leaking into the luggage hold, and the last thing I need is for it to be leaking onto my luggage too!
I guess that the "plastic wrap" instruction is designed to keep any leakage that may occur contained.
You were right to demand a "second opinion" as this means a split of any profit and a less attractive proposition.
