You can watch the computer screen and see the prices come up as they scan them. There was also another scanner in the shop you could use to check prices. Plus, things were usually priced on the shelves, if not the products themselves.
Nothing extra got scanned up. Nothing ever came up at ridiculous prices. Not really sure what level they could have ripped me off at, aside from maybe some things being a couple of hundred rupiah more than at some other shops?
To me, being ripped off in one of these shops is the old Circle K scam of having something pre-scanned before they scan your items. Never happened to me at the Loji and my totals were always pretty cheap.
