Beautiful hot day in Kuta after an initial downpour. As its Nyepi day no-one is allowed out of the hotel and we have been asked to be quiet and to draw the curtains tonight so no light shines out. No Indonesian channels on tv only the few international ones.
Would love to see the streets all deserted but unable to see anyhting from our hotel.
Nice relaxing day reading old emails, swimming , doing jigsaws and watching dvds, got many supplies yesterday to last us a week at least. Hotel still cooking and restruant and room service available so all good.
Went to Kuta late yesterday and looked at floats in last nights parade - well worth the look if u are ever over here. At 4pm most of the shops on way to the memorial were closed and hardly anyone on streets, these were closed off and police on guard to ensure no traffic entered.
We had decided not to stay to dark and see parade as a little worried about safety. A few days ago a young girl on street outside of our hotel had been crowded and pushed by kids and adults and when they left her so did all her money - her wallet was on the ground empty.
On way back to hotel a boy amongst a group of young boys pretended to trip and fell into my mum (no spring chicken) and punched her and they all laughed. I did not see it happen and they were long gone when she told me but it left a bad feeling in my heart. I hope that bit of evil leaves the island today...
