Who: two women friends 46, and 54, left families at home!
Flights :
Garuda: All very fine
Airport: have to walk a long way to transport at the moment, due to Ngurah Rai airport being upgraded :). Otherwise the same. Used the Prada lounge on way home at $AUD15. Look it's not Qantas, and it's mildly grotty and a bit run down, but it's cool and quiet.
Hotels: Villa Seminyak Estate and Spa 4 nights. Had a great stay. See my previous post. Maya Ubud 5 nights. A lovely hotel at the upper end of the price range. Great place for adults. Nothing much for kids. Transfers all included. On time and excellent.
Restaurants: Seminyak- Mamasan, Sardine, Sarong, La Lucciola, all devine. Biku for afternoon tea. Gorgeous and totally decadent- for me anyway.
Ubud: The Bridges- lovely, not too expensive. Mozaic- top service and place. Degustation menu, some items a bit challenging. Expensive.
Activities: Lobong Culinary Experience (cooking school). Just posted about this. It's the best I have attended. Just out of Ubud. Inexpensive, run by a family in their home, excellent.
Shopping:
Toko Central Beads shop or Jl Raya Kuta: Huge selection of beads of all types, also sewing things and artificial flowers
Wardanis: in Ubud Jl Monkey Forest. For Balinese fabrics (Ikat, Endek and Batik) by the metre. Fixed price but they generally offer a discount. Great quality
Alta Moda: 3 storeys of fabric in Kuta (Kuta Central Shopping Centre) good quality and inexpensive.
Tailoring:
For ten years, I've organized this through a lovely guy called Abiem. He will come to your hotel in the Kuta Legian Seminyak area to collect fabric and samples, and will deliver back to you. Fantastic finish to garments and nice price. Also leather and handbags. You may find cheaper, but for reliability and quality he's great. Abiem also is super polite, and speaks very good English. Weather: wet every afternoon about 4-6pm, somewhere in there. Heavy rain. Watch your step.
