Mamasan was opened 7 moths ago I think, by the chap who started Sarong over in Petitenget. It has 2 stores, the upstairs bar is very nice. Nicely furnished in timber furniture, it is beautifully appointed and has lovely lighting. There is a very large wall mural at one end of a Chinese woman- Mamasan. The menu is modern Asian, reasonably priced and very delightful. Cocktails are devine. Service was very polite and efficient. It is very well air conditioned, just the thing on a hot night.

Sardine is on Jl Petitenget. It is also a modern restaurant with a beaut menu ( coconut pannacotta....mmmm) The setting is a very large bale, with some lounges out the back in the open, nearby the rice paddy. This large open area is dotted with little lights, big pots, umbrellas and sculptures. Beautiful at night. Once again, cocktails were fine. Well priced

Forgot to mention Chandi in Jl Laksmana. another totally lovely restaurant. Nice and quiet Had a wonderful concoction called tamachillo surprise or something like that. Wow, terrific cocktail. again well priced

Others that looked nice were Ultimo ( very busy and noisy when we went past, and a queue to get in. Nooooo) Also Bali Cafe. Try The Corner Store (also known as The Tuck Shop) for a great coffee and lunch.

None of these restaurants are "cheap", basically only inexpensive compared to Australian restaurants. We tend not to drink wine there, but have a cocktail on arrival and water with our meals. We generally end up spending about Rp 750,000 for 2 cocktails, mains and desserts. That's like $AUD37.00. I call that a good deal.

Have fun
