Not sure if this is of any help because I don't really know what I'm talking about in terms of the technology but a friend lost her phone and all her precious photos of her grandaughter but when she got a new sim in a new phone with 4S (???) it has something called icloud and when she switched the new one on, all her lost photos were on it. Won't bring the phone back but if there were important photos on it, may be worth talking to the phone shop people when you are replacing it!
